Why is my SOL locked in my wallet?

If your wallet shows less SOL than you expected, part of it may be locked as rent in empty token accounts. Here is why it happens and how to unlock it.

The short answer

Every token you trade opens an account that keeps about 0.002 SOL as rent. Selling the token empties the account but does not close it, so the SOL stays locked.

How much can it be?

It adds up fast: 100 trades are about 0.2 SOL, 1,000 trades about 2 SOL. Wallets of active memecoin traders often have several SOL locked this way.

How to unlock it

Close the empty accounts. Claim Sol finds them for you, shows exactly how much you get back and closes them with as few approvals as possible in your wallet (up to 56 accounts per transaction).

What about dust and junk NFTs?

Tokens worth a few cents can be sold for SOL or burned, and junk NFTs burned: both release more rent. Claim Sol never selects anything of value automatically and asks for confirmation before burning.

FAQ

Will closing accounts affect my portfolio?

No. Only empty accounts are closed by default. Your tokens and NFTs stay where they are unless you decide otherwise.

Do I need to deposit anything?

No. Fees are taken only from the SOL you get back, and if your wallet is empty we cover the gas.
